It Is Everywhere, Soon To Be—Here!

The 2014 NRA Annual Meeting and Convention Comes to Indianapolis, Indiana

Several years ago, after walking down the never-ending sidewalk along the Ponte Vecchio river in Florence, Italy, I finally realized a life-long dream; I found the Instituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza (the Leonardo Da Vinci Museum) open for my tour.

Now machine guns and cannons were nothing new. In fact, I had found them all over the world, but I was visiting the place where they were conceived and drawn by Leonardo Da Vinci. This was long before they were built and designed to operate as functional war machines.

In a word, “AMAZING!” Ever since childhood, and especially since becoming a firearms attorney, gun law author, and general counsel to one of the largest gun shows in the United States, I was amazed at how the NRA had a presence everywhere.

Over the last few years, I have had the chance to personally work with legislators pushing NRA-backed legislation, and have spent considerable time with the NRA’s talented lobbyists. In doing so, I observed firsthand how the NRA could bring the people and resources to the largest cities and tiniest corners of the state where they needed to advance a free-gun ownership agenda.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2013, I joined a small group of Hoosiers invited to meet with professional NRA staff to prepare and promote the NRA’s 2014 Annual Meeting and Convention that will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 25-27, 2013. I am excited to see all that the NRA will bring to our city.

In fact, we have the opportunity to host the biggest convention in NRA history. This is a challenge, considering Indianapolis is less than half the population of Houston, Texas, where the NRA 2013 Annual Meeting was held. Houston had an impressive turnout that exceeded 86,000 attendees. It is my desire to have Indianapolis break this record.

On a recent road trip through southeastern Indiana, I found a lonely farm field with one simple sign –inviting others to join the NRA. The idea is large and the message is clear. I took this as proof that Hoosiers are just as committed to defending the Second Amendment and its patron angel as every other state.

I personally invite you–in these politically challenging times–to make this happen. If you cannot attend, make a financial contribution to the NRA. Let us promote the NRA and the City of Indianapolis as the premier host to this prestigious annual convention. Get involved, attend and encourage others to do so and reach out to find out how you can volunteer and be an ambassador to our city–and make the NRA convention just as successful as the cities first Superbowl.

No organization has done as much for our right to keep and bear arms, and I hope our turnout to support the NRA will make history with the 2014 Annual Convention in Indianapolis. Based on preliminary information shared by the NRA staff during our initial planning session, this will be the best and most-activity laden convention yet.

Please see me for information about the 2014 NRA Convention at the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show. There will be an NRA booth as well as the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association booth at all of the Indy 1500 shows. Together, we can make the NRA 2014 Convention one for the record books and build a stronger foundation for the Second Amendment that supports all of us.

I will see you there.

This blog post was written by attorney Bryan L. Ciyou, Ciyou & Dixon, P.C., Indianapolis, Indiana. I practice law throughout Indiana and consult and lecture on gun law topics throughout the United States. Make a difference and commit to attending or supporting the 2014 Annual Convention today. Many of the most sought-after events at the Annual Convention sell-out quickly.

My personal thanks and gratitude goes out to the NRA staff who work nonstop to make America the greatest nation there is.

  1. There is an NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. It is 10 miles southwest of Raton. This is an amazing place to visit, stay, shoot or even take concealed carry classes. They have camping and Rv sites, cabins, hunts, hikes, and an amazing firearms museum. If you are ever in the area it is a must see.

They also offer a U Whittington Defensive Academy for pistol, carbine, and shotgun, for firearm training. The NRA has several shooting ranges as well
